Osama Heikal, Minister of State for Information, said that the implementation of a full curfew in Egypt is part of the country's precautionary measures to counter the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19.

In exclusive remarks to “Nazra” program broadcast via Sada al-Balad satellite channel on Thursday, Heikal added that it is possible to implement a full curfew to preserve the health of the Egyptians, expressing his hope that this measure will not be reached.

He explained that his desire not to reach the full curfew in Egypt is due to the huge economic losses that the state has lost so far, pointing out that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government not to think about the financial losses but rather the health of the citizen.

The Minister of State for Information indicated that the vast majority responded to the curfew after it was imposed, saying: "It is not a security and political curfew, but it is for the sake of the Egyptians and to make sure that the citizens are fine.”

It is worth noting that the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli issued a decision, to impose a curfew inside Egypt on all public roads, from 7 pm until 6 am, to stop all means of public transport, and to close shops from 5 pm until 6 am and close them completely on a daily basis Friday and Saturday.

Heikal noted that isolating some governorates completely is one of the scenarios set out to prevent the spread of the virus, adding that all the governorates of the republic of Egypt seemed to have some COVID-19 cases except for two governorates.

He stated that the country does not set a specific time for the end of precautionary measures for the novel corona virus, manifesting that the country has a second scenario that ends on June 30, and a third scenario that ends by December 30.
