As online learning has shown significant growth over the last decade, the Egyptian Government has provided more than EGP 1.1 billion to meet the growing demand for digital skills, according to IDSC.

According to a new report released by IDSC, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has trained more than 180,000 young men and women under the "Our Future Is Digital" initiative to prepare young people for the labor market.

The report entitled, "Egyptians' rising interest in E-learning"addressed the efforts exerted to upgrade the skills of young people and qualify them according to the requirements of the changing labor market, especially amid the recent digital transformations and the rapid changes in the nature of jobs locally and internationally.

The report indicated that in order to further develop and weigh skills in Egypt, new training programs and packages have been added to the initiative, including website design and development, data analysis, programming languages, and digital marketing.

In the recently report, Coursera, which is U.S.-based massive open online course provider, pointed to the interest of students in Egypt in learning technological skills like software engineering, which empower them to carry out their own projects.

Approximately 1.64 million Egyptian learners through digital platforms are registered on Coursera, with a total of 83,220 university students, with an average age of 24 years, 33% of whom are women, the report noted.

"This underscores the imperative need for developing the skills of our youth to meet the needs of the current and future labor market," the report pointed out.
