Dr. Hisham Salam, the director and founder of  Mansoura University Center for Vertebrate Excavations, explained that the center is the first of its kind in Middle East and is interested in the Egyptian natural heritage from vertebrate fossils such as dinosaur and whale fossils which have been in Egypt for millions years.

In his exclusive remarks to SEE, Salam reported that Egypt has 70 million year old fossil-digger sites and what has been discovered is 100 million years old in El bahariya oases.

Meanwhile, Egypt has a forest full of fossils belonging to monkeys, elephants and predators. Wadi Hitan, located in Fayoum, has fossils dating back 40 million years.

In addition to vertebrate excavation, the center writes scientific research on it to communicate it to the public.

Noteworthy, excavations missions have been frequenting Egypt since 1885, but of now, Egypt has an Egyptian competent research team in the field of vertebrate excavation for the first time.
