The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs lit up its main building with the word “MED DAY” in celebration of the Mediterranean Day, which falls on November 28 of each year.
Egypt occupies a unique position in the Mediterranean region with its distinguished location, as it considered the centre of cultural and civilizational communication among the peoples of the region on its land.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes this opportunity to stress the importance of regional Mediterranean cooperation to face common challenges in the region, foremost of which are: climate change, energy and food security, addressing illegal immigration, combating extremism, and promoting economic and social development.
In November 2020, the 42 Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean declared the 28th of November as the official Day of the Mediterranean, to be marked annually, calling upon the entire Mediterranean community and everyone who identifies with the Mediterranean to celebrate the lasting legacy of this age-old agora of cultural dialogue, wisdom, and humanism.
The first Mediterranean Day in History is celebrated this November 28 and the IEMed is joining it by organising several exhibitions, conferences, and debates with a view to promoting intercultural exchanges and dialogue.
