The value of Egyptian exports to Arab countries reached $16.2 billion in 2024, compared to $13.6 billion in 2023, an increase of 18%, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Saudi Arabia topped the list of Arab countries importing the most goods from Egypt in 2024, with exports reaching $3.4 billion. This was followed by the UAE with $3.3 billion, Libya with $2 billion, Morocco with $1 billion, Algeria with $996 million, Sudan with $866.2 million, Iraq with $816 million, Lebanon with $763 million, Jordan with $752 million, and the occupied Palestinian territories with $461 million.
The report indicated that the most important commodities exported to Arab countries in 2024 were: pearls, precious stones, and jewelry worth $2.1 billion; vegetables and fruits worth $1.6 billion; electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment worth $1.2 billion; fuels, mineral oils, and their distillation products worth $894 million; iron and steel worth $805 million; various food preparations worth $781 million; and copper and copper products worth $765 million.
Egyptian imports from the Arab world
The value of Egyptian imports from Arab countries reached $14.3 billion in 2024, compared to $12.4 billion in 2023, a 14% increase.
Saudi Arabia topped the list of Arab countries exporting the most to Egypt in 2024, with imports reaching $7.9 billion. This was followed by the UAE with $2.7 billion, Kuwait with $947 million, Oman with $664 million, Bahrain with $584 million, Sudan with $292.4 million, Iraq with $284 million, Jordan with $255.8 million, and Lebanon with $238 million.
The report also noted that the most important commodity groups imported from Arab countries in 2024 were fuels, mineral oils, and their distillation products, valued at $7.5 billion; plastics and their products, valued at $1.9 billion; and copper and its products, valued at $759 million.
Raw metals were valued at $581 million, aluminum and its products at $460 million, iron and steel at $449 million, chemical products at $313 million, and machinery and electrical appliances at $309 million.
CAPMAS data also showed that trade between Egypt and Arab countries increased to $30.5 billion in 2024, compared to $26 billion in 2023, a 16% increase.
Remittances from Egyptians working in Arab countries
CAPMAS data also revealed that remittances from Egyptians working in Arab countries reached $13.8 billion during the 2023/24 fiscal year, compared to $14.3 billion in 2022/23.
Saudi Arabia ranked first among the Arab countries with the highest value of Egyptian remittances during the 2023/24 fiscal year, with remittances amounting to $8 billion. This was followed by Kuwait with $2.1 billion, the UAE with $1.8 billion, Qatar with $819.5 million, and Jordan with $361.2 million.
Remittances from Arab workers in Egypt amounted to $68.3 million during the 2023/24 fiscal year, compared to $94.5 million during the 2022/23 fiscal year.
The UAE ranked first in the value of remittances from Arab workers in Egypt, with remittances amounting to $31.6 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with $11.6 million, Jordan with $4.6 million, Oman with $4 million, and Lebanon with $3.5 million.
According to the mission's estimates, the number of Egyptians residing in Arab countries reached 3.9 million Egyptians by the end of 2023.
