Egypt’s engineering exports have reached $3.7 billion for the first time in history, marking a significant milestone for one of the country’s fastest-growing industrial sectors.
According to the Engineering Export Council, several sub-industries posted sharp increases during the first seven months of the year. Exports of electrical and electronic industries jumped 53.4%, transport equipment rose 28.6%, cables climbed 15%, household appliances gained 6.2%, auto components grew 7.1%, and machinery and equipment advanced 13%.
Metals exports stood out with an exceptional surge of more than 290%, underscoring the breadth of the sector’s expansion.
The growth was largely attributed to sustained efforts to penetrate international markets. Egyptian engineering products saw notable demand in European countries including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, as well as in Arab markets such as the UAE, Iraq, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Syria.
New opportunities also emerged in Asia (China, Azerbaijan, Indonesia), Africa (Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Central Africa), and the United States.
Export council head Sherif El-Sayyad stressed the importance of maintaining this momentum by boosting product competitiveness and increasing value-added exports. He highlighted ongoing initiatives including bilateral trade agreements and export support programs designed to unlock new growth levels in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Mai Helmy, Executive Director of the Engineering Export Council said the strategy is built on two pillars: expanding the exporter base by onboarding new companies, and upgrading existing exporters through specialized training and capacity-building programs. She noted that special focus is being placed on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access international markets, ensuring greater diversity in Egypt’s engineering export structure.
“Egypt’s plans align closely with the state’s broader agenda to support industry and exports,” Helmy added, stressing that the engineering sector is well-positioned to achieve unprecedented milestones in the near future.
