Egypt Congratulates Ramy Youssef on Winning Golden Globe Award

Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC extended its congratulations on Facebook to Egyptian-American actor Ramy Youssef on winning a Golden Globe Award for best actor in a comedy series.

Youssef received the award for his role in Hulu comedy “Ramy,” which he also created, wrote, produced and directed, at the 77th annual Golden Globes Sunday evening at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

“Egyptian - American actor Ramy Youssef won the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy series making him the first actor of Egyptian descent to win in this category. His series “Ramy” depicted the life of an Egyptian - American family living in New Jersey. Congrats Ramy! #GoldenGlobes2020 #EgyptianAmericans” the embassy's statement read.

The Golden Globe Awards, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais, who poked fun at the Hollywood elite.

Youssef won after a tough competition, against iconic actor Michael Douglas (“The Kominsky Method”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), Ben Platt (“The Politician”) and Paul Rudd (“Living With Yourself”).
