Egypt’s midfielder Amr El-Sulya has won the best assist of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations group stage for his lobbing through ball to Mohamed Salah against Guinea-Bissau.
The Pharaohs qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16, where they will face Ivory Coast, after finishing as Group D runner-ups.
Despite achieving the main goal of progressing past the group-stages, Egypt struggled to impress the fans and pundits, scoring just twice in their opening three games.
Their first goal came in the second matchday as they took on Guinea-Bissau after Mohamed Salah broke the curse and scored Egypt’s first goal in four games with a first-time volley.
What caught the eyes more than the goal was the assist by Amr El-Sulya, who found Salah with a smart lobbing ball that put the Liverpool man through on goal.
Not only the goal had earned Egypt crucial three points that kicked off their AFCON campaign, but El-Sulya’s pass also won the best assist of the group stage by the CAF.
El-Sulya will now hope to replicate the same performance when Egypt face Ivory Coast in the round of 16 next Wednesday at the Japoma Stadium, Douala.
