Pakistan has secured one of its most significant defence breakthroughs in the Middle East after Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS), the country’s leading state-owned defence conglomerate, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with Egypt’s Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) at the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX) 2025 in Cairo. The agreement marks a major step in Pakistan–Egypt military-industrial cooperation and opens the door to long-term joint production and technology transfer.
The MoU commits both sides to expand collaboration across advanced defence technologies, joint R&D, and co-production programmes. According to senior officials present at the signing, the partnership positions Pakistan as a dependable supplier of modern and competitively priced defence capabilities for Arab states seeking diversified procurement channels.
Sources within GIDS indicated that early cooperation will centre on unmanned aerial systems, precision-guided munitions, electronic warfare systems, and components for integrated air defence networks—areas in which Pakistan has built a strong export record and operational credibility. The partnership will draw on AOI’s extensive industrial capacity and Egypt’s regional influence while introducing Pakistani technological advances into Egyptian military structures.
Defence observers say the agreement sends a clear signal to traditional suppliers that the regional defence market is undergoing rapid change. Pakistan’s growing catalogue of mature, affordable systems is allowing it to move into markets long dominated by major global players. The deal also aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce dependency on single-source imports.
The MoU outlines plans for joint working groups, reciprocal training programmes, and opportunities for coordinated exports to third countries, shifting the relationship from occasional procurement to a sustained industrial partnership.
