Egyptologist Explains Secrets of Abydos Temple to US Delegation

Dr. Ahmed Budran, Egyptologist, and Professor of Ancient Egyptian Archeology at Cairo University gave a lecture to a high-ranking American delegation on the antiquities of the Abydos region in Sohag.

The lecture comes within the framework of successive campaigns to promote Egyptian tourism and spread cultural awareness.

In his lecture, Badran talked about Osiris, the rituals of his worship and festivals that take place in the month of kayak (kehk) each year and its importance to the ancient Egyptians.

He gave a detailed explanation of the first Seti I temple in Abydos. Badran also talked about the history of the temple, excavation missions and excavations in the region.

Badran discussed the region`s architectural planning and the most important scenes and its inscriptions to the delegation.

He pointed out to the hieroglyphic texts accompanying these scenes and the list of kings as one of the most important sources of ancient Egyptian history.

The Egyptologist also spoke about the seven chapels in the temple of Horus, Osiris, Isis, Amun-Ra, Ptah and Seti I.

In his explanation, Badran touched the original edifice of the temple, the first and second courtyards, water wells, and the first pillar hall whose ceiling is raised 24 columns, then the second pillar hall whose roof holds 34 columns.

Badran referred to the Nefertiti and Sucre group, then the Corridor of Kings, the Taurus Corridor, the hall of boats and slaughterhouse, and Coptic writings on the walls, the garden of the temple, the palace of reception, then the treasure room.

The lecture covered the building of the Osirians and the Ramses II temple in Kom El Sultan.
