Egyptian Researcher Submits French Doctorate Treatise on “Surah El Nisa”

Some verses of Surah El Nisa of the Holy Koran may stir controversy by Orientalists who study the Islamic heritage in western universities.

Those verses include: A male has two portions of heritage like the female (Nisa 10) and a man can marry two, three, four men women and men are guardians of the women.

However, the insightful reading of this Surah reveals that the Koran honors women.

Dina E L Kurdy, an Assistant Teacher at Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, has submitted a decorate treatise in French language about three translations of Surah El Nisa.

Title of the dissertation: A study of problems of translation. Those translations were implemented by an Algerian scholar ( Abu Bakar Hamza), a French professor Jean Grogan and André Chouraqui, a Jewish French Orientalist.

She had won the first award of a French competition named: My Thesis in 180 seconds”.

She said that science has many faces.

It doesn’t limit to labs or white coats only.

It may have deep roots in literature or poetry.

EL Kurdy has come first at the competition of “My Thesis in 180 seconds”. The competition is a local version of another international one.

It is organized by the University Francophone Agency which includes Faculty of Arts of Alexandria University and other academic institutions across the world.

El Kurdy won both awards of the jury and audience of that competition at the same time.

She represented Egypt in the international version of the competition which was held in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, in the west of Africa, on the 26th of September.

Regulations of the competition based on reviewing contents of the treatise in a simple language within 180 seconds.

Treatise of Al Kurdy compares translations of three translation of Surah Al Nisaa ( women) of the Holy Koran.

The Egyptian researcher studied problems related to every of those translations, especially those verses handling issues of women.

 

She told “ SEE” reporter that she chose that Surah as it includes many pine rulings of heritage, marriage and fornication along with warning of Ja'hiliyah traditions.
