Egyptian Researcher Cracks Cancer Code In Japan

CAIRO, Mar. 7(SEE)- From the heart of Upper Egypt,  a Minia University researcher traveled to Japan to receive a four years scholarship to accomplish his dream of fighting lymphoma.

Ahmed Refaat El Maghraby, who is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Science, was fortunate enough to register with the 2018 Nobel Laureate for Medicine Tasuku Honjo.

Honjo was awarded the prize for manipulating the immune system to fight cancer.

El-Maghraby is examining the gene responsible for the persity of antibodies and its role in combating lymphoma, as defects in the gene lead to malignant tumors in the blood.

He explained to "SEE" that Honjo gave him a personal appointment after sending his research proposal, noting that the Japanese laboratory works on antibodies, discovered by the supervisor.

Lymphoma is cancer that begins in fighting the immune system. lymphocytes change and grow out of control due.

El-Maghraby added that the College Council approved his Ph.D. within the Egyptian-Japanese Education Initiative, upon the approval of the Department of Zoology and Entomology.
