According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egypt’s population has hit 102 million and 746 thousand as of Monday.

The overwhelming statistic excludes Egyptian nationals living abroad who are estimated to be between 9 and 9.5 million.

The CAPMAS also added the population grew by quarter a million in about 60 days, compared to 50 days it took for the same number recorded on October 13th.

Recognizing the growth, Egyptian prime minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that demographic expansion constituted the country’s largest challenge.

Egypt has been trying to combat overpopulation since 1965 but has not succeeded because of a bundle of negative social practices. Those are child labor, child marriage, and the high illiteracy rates among women as it reaches 31 percent.
