Egyptian Parliament Member Suggests Banning Plastic Bags

Egyptian Parliament Member Anissa Hassouna suggested bannning the use of plastic bags in Egypt. She offered using eco-friendly materials instead.

She said that Egyptians consume 12 billion plastic bags per year, adding that plastic takes ages in  order to decompose. Burning plastics are not a safe solution due to the poisonus gases which harm the atmosphere.

Hassouna said that plastic pollution is a real danger for both humans and marine creatures.

Hurghada stopped the use of plastic bags earlier this year. restaurants, supermarkets and groceries replaced plastic with other more eco-friendly materials such as paper and cloth.
