Egyptian Museum to Inaugurate “Rediscovering The Dead” Exhibition

CAIRO, Jan. 9 (SEE)- Tomorrow evening a temporary exhibition entitled “Rediscovering The Dead” will be inaugurated at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

Elham Salah, the General Director of the Museums Sector, said that the exhibition, which is the first of its kind inside the museum, will showcase 15 skulls of different ages groups unearthed at different sites including Alkamel and Beit Allam in Sohag, Naqada in Minia and Alselsela Mountains in Aswan- dating back to prehistoric times, nearly 6000 years ago.

“The expo will include a skeleton dating back to more than 21000 years, uncovered at Al-Kobania Valley in Aswan, which is the second oldest structure to be found,” added Salah. “It will also showcase a baby mummy covered with a golden layer belonging to the Roman era, discovered in Akhmim, Upper Egypt.”

On her part, Sabah Abdel-Razek, the General Director of the Museum, pointed out that the exhibition is an educational one that shed light on the significance of organic archaeology in ancient Egypt, through studying human remains to find out important information.

The exhibition deals with four different topics: age and sex estimation, diseases, embalming and information on the sites where the skulls have been unearthed.
