Egyptian tennis player, Mayar Sherif, has qualified to the "Roland Garros" main draw, one of the Grand Slam championships, becoming the first Egyptian female tennis player to achieve this.
The Egyptian player, 24, qualified to the main draw after her victory in the preliminary round final Friday over Italian rival Giulia Gatto-Monticone 2-0, after winning two sets, 6-1 and 6-3.
Mayar, ranked 171 globally, had beaten Colombia's Maria Camila Osorio 6-4, 6-0 in the quarter-finals, and in the semi-final over American Katie McNally 6-2, 6-4.
Her first Grand Slam main draw match will not be easy as she will take on current world number 4, Karolina Pilskova.
Earlier, the official "Roland Garros" Facebook page celebrated the achievement of the Egyptian player, saying that Sherif has made history after becoming the first Egyptian to win a match in the "Grand Slam".
Sherif also had secured her qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, thus becoming the first Egyptian to achieve this as well.
