Renowned Egyptian legal expert Dr. Ali El-Ghatit has passed away, drawing heartfelt tributes from public figures, including businessman Naguib Sawiris, who remembered him as a man of immense knowledge, character, and principle.

Dr. El-Ghatit, a towering figure in legal thought and human rights advocacy, died earlier today, leaving behind a legacy defined by intellectual rigor, generosity, and a lifelong commitment to justice.

In a tribute shared on social media, Sawiris recalled frequent visits to El-Ghatit’s expansive office in Cairo’s Garden City district, where rows of important legal and philosophical books lined the floor.

He described the warmth with which the late scholar welcomed him, often offering books from his personal collection and insisting on replacing them at his own expense.

Sawiris also shared a poignant memory of El-Ghatit’s late father, who used to buy multiple copies of books so that his son could gift them to peers interested in the pursuit of knowledge. This gesture, Sawiris said, reflected a deep-rooted family tradition of intellectual generosity.

Born in 1940, Dr. El-Ghatit was widely respected for his legal scholarship, particularly in constitutional law, and served as an advisor to many national and international legal bodies. His writings and teachings have influenced generations of Egyptian legal minds.
