During a working visit to Cairo today, Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos met with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, the Foreign Minister of Egypt. The meeting focused on strengthening the strategic relationship between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as discussing EU-Egypt relations, energy developments, and the situation in the Middle East.

The talks underscored the deepening cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt, two nations with a long history of diplomatic and economic ties. The ministers highlighted the importance of their strategic relationship, particularly in the context of regional stability and economic development.

Energy developments were a key topic of discussion, given the significant natural gas discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean. Both ministers emphasized the potential for cooperation in the energy sector, including the development and export of natural gas, which could enhance energy security for both countries and the broader region.

The conversation also touched on the broader EU-Egypt relationship. As a member of the European Union, Cyprus plays a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Egypt. The ministers discussed ways to strengthen these ties, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, and regional security.

The situation in the Middle East was another critical point on the agenda. The ministers exchanged views on recent developments and reiterated their commitment to working together to promote peace and stability in the region. They discussed ongoing conflicts and the importance of diplomatic efforts to resolve them, as well as the need for continued cooperation in combating terrorism and other security threats.
