The Egyptian documentary film “Aash ya Captain” gained a lot of local and international attention recently.

“Aash ya Captain” was chosen earlier today to take part in the 42nd run of the Cairo International Film Festival on December 2nd, 2020 where it will be showed for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa.

The documentary was also shown in the Toronto International Film Festival back in September as well as the 63rd run of the International DOK Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Films which started on October 26th and ended on November 1st.

The film is directed by Mai Zayed.

It narrates the story of 14-year-old Zubaiba who is working to achieve her dream of becoming the world weightlifting champion just like her coach’s daughter Nahla Ramadan (the former world weightlifting champion and the weightlifting pioneer in the Middle East and Africa).

So, she trains everyday with her coach Ramadan Mohamed who has been training and preparing girls for weightlifting championships for more than 20 years.
