Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces returned to Egypt following the conclusion of an official visit to Libya, marking a significant step in ongoing military diplomacy between the two neighboring states.

The senior military official and his accompanying delegation were received with formal honors upon arrival. The ceremony included an official guard of honor and the playing of the national anthems of both countries, a protocol underscoring the importance Cairo attaches to defense cooperation with Tripoli.

During the visit, Khalifa participated in the closing session of the First Conference of Chiefs of Staff of Mediterranean Basin and Sahel-Sahara countries. The conference focused on strengthening military and security cooperation among participating states to reinforce regional stability and safeguard shared strategic interests.

Key issues on the agenda included coordinated efforts to combat terrorism, counter irregular migration flows, and enhance border security cooperation — all within the framework of international law and full respect for national sovereignty.

On the sidelines of the conference, Khalifa held talks with Field Marshal Khaled Haftar, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. The discussions addressed mechanisms for expanding military cooperation and enhancing coordination between the armed forces of both nations.

Officials from both sides attended the meeting, reflecting a shared interest in institutionalizing defense dialogue and reinforcing channels of communication.
