Egypt achieved a major international milestone by winning a seat on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council under Category II, following elections held during the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
The victory marks one of Egypt’s strongest showings in ICAO elections to date, reflecting broad international confidence in the country’s role as a regional and global leader in the aviation industry. The success also underscores Cairo’s growing influence in shaping the future of global air transport policy.
In an official statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation hailed the result as a new achievement that builds on the country’s distinguished record in civil aviation and its active participation in international aviation forums. The ministry noted that the outcome demonstrates Egypt’s strategic vision, robust diplomatic relations, and the international community’s trust in its technical and institutional capabilities.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El Hefny expressed pride in the achievement, describing it as a testament to Egypt’s global standing and its pioneering role in advancing the aviation sector worldwide. He credited the win to the unprecedented support of Egypt’s political leadership, which has prioritized modernization of the civil aviation sector as part of the country’s Vision 2030 strategy.
El Hefny emphasized that Egypt’s renewed presence on the ICAO Council would enable it to contribute more effectively to the formulation of international aviation policies, particularly those promoting sustainability, safety, and innovation.
He added that Egypt is committed to launching further strategic initiatives to support sustainable air transport, assist developing nations, and strengthen global connectivity through enhanced trade and tourism.
