Egypt Uses Satellites to Monitor GERD

Amr Fawzy, an official in the planning sector at the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, revealed the details of using radar satellite imagery applications to monitor the ground displacement in the Ethiopian  Renaissance Dam.

Fawzy said, during an open dialogue on the management of water resources and irrigation in Egypt, in the presence of Egyptian editors-in-chief, media, and journalists in Qanater district in the north of Cairo,, that there are studies from the international expert committee, water and environmental, and on the safety of the Ethiopian dam.

He explained that data on the construction situation and its developments will be available.

Fawzi pointed out that there are many times when no data is available about the Ethiopia dam.

He added that there are devices in the dams that measure the changes in the area of the dam.

He pointed out that the radar images need more than one specialty and are used in monitoring the dam and facilities inside the dam and outside Egypt.

Fawzy indicated that there are researches conducted on the soil of the dam area and confirmed that there are problems with it.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Minister of Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel-Aty, said that the Egyptian state will not allow any future or current water crises to occur.

In his speech during his meeting with a number of writers and journalists, which is organized by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in cooperation with the National Media Authority, the minister added that his ministry has its eyes on all water issues, and those related to development, stressing that there is no development without providing water.

He said that the water of the Nile will not dry up Egypt desalinate seawater to obtain water from 7.5 to 10 billion cubic meters because the Egyptian population has grown by 25 million people throughout the last 10 years.
