On Thursday, Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation, Rania A. Al-Mashat, met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt, Alessandro Fracassetti, to explore how South-South and triangular cooperation offer a unique pathway that can accelerate nations towards the 2030 sustainable agenda.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of International Cooperation, Al-Mashat noted that innovation in the South is unlocking new tools and partnerships for tackling issues of food insecurity and sustainable agriculture, which persifies the range of modalities for the exchange of development solutions.

The Egyptian high-ranking official added that it enhances the implementation of the 17th SDG goal in particular, which is focused on “partnerships for the goals”, and the importance of triangular cooperation in strengthening Egypt’s regional position in driving Africa’s climate action forward through fostering the exchange of experiences with the example of the Takaful and Karama initiative.

On his part, Fracassetti affirmed the keenness of the UNDP to strengthen its partnership with Egypt, and unlock further opportunities for the Decent Life Initiative and South-South and triangular cooperation.

Taking an “all-hands-on-deck” effort that leverages the comparative advantage of every stakeholder, the meetings witnessed the participation of civil society and trade union institutions, multilateral and bilateral development partners, the private sector, entrepreneurs, think tanks, and research institutions, the statment said.

The meeting also tackled the preparations for the launch of the UNDP Cooperation Framework 2023-2027, which is set to put forward a common agenda that provides a powerful vision for a more secure, inclusive, and prosperous future, the statement added.
