Egypt’s U17 national team claimed a 2-0 victory over Morocco in the third-place playoff of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations on Monday evening.
The Egyptian side delivered a solid performance to secure the win and finish the tournament on a positive note.
This result also ended Egypt’s recent struggles against Morocco across youth levels, as the “Pharaohs” had gone several matches without a victory against the “Atlas Lions” in recent years.
Egypt last defeated Morocco in January 2022 during the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, a match in which Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud Trezeguet were among the scorers.
The two teams have met several times across different youth competitions over the past four years, with Morocco previously dominating most encounters before Egypt’s breakthrough win in this fixture.
