Egypt denounced statements made by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and called them “baseless,” and “contradictory.”

“The Turkish foreign minister’s statements published by the CNN Turk satellite channel confirm that Ankara insistence on counterproductive allegations that serve ideological trends only,” said Ahmed Hafez, the spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs.

Hafez stressed Egypt's “categorical refusal of this approach from the Turkish side.”

He noted that continuing speaking about Egypt in such “negative and contradictory way,” reflects Ankara’s lack of credibility regarding any allegation that Turkey seeks to rebuild relations based on respect and adherence to the rules of international legitimacy.

Turkey’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that the government offered to make a maritime jurisdiction agreement with Egypt, CNN Turk has reported. Mevlut Cavusoglu made his comments in a live interview on CNN Turk.
