The state-run Metallurgical Industries Holding company (MIH) will produce a prototype of the first locally-manufactured ventilator within a week.

In televised remarks, MIH Chairman Medhat Nafei announced that the device will be ready for mass production after another week, to help addressing the emerging Coronavirus crisis.

This step came after the Dublin-based company Medtronic revealed that it will publicly share the design specifications for its Puritan Bennett (PB) 560 portable ventilator to allow other companies to produce them rapidly to help meet the shortage caused by the new coronavirus.

The PB 560 ventilator has a number of advantages, one being that it’s a relatively compact and lightweight piece of equipment that can be easily moved around and installed for use in a range of different healthcare environments and settings.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases around the world has hit 938923 and deaths reached more than 47,000.

In light of the “COVID-19” crisis, Egypt seeks to secure its needs from these medical kits in anticipation of any increase in the number of critical cases.

Many countries around the world either developed or developing ones are suffering from a critical shortage of mechanical ventilators which are necessary for critically ill patients, including Italy and the U.S.

In this regard, Humankind and the Egyptian cure bank have created a star-studded campaign featuring public figures including Youssra, Amina Khalil and Naguib Sawiris, Amr Youssef, Dorra simply inhaling and exhaling to help to acquire ventilators the nation needs.
