The Egypt national team suffered their first official defeat under head coach Hossam Hassan, following a 1–0 loss to Senegal in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Since taking charge, Hossam Hassan had overseen 20 official matches with Egypt.
The defeat against Senegal marked his first loss, coming in the AFCON semifinal stage.
Senegal secured victory thanks to a powerful long-range strike from Sadio Mané, which proved to be the only goal of the match.
Egypt have now recorded 15 wins, four draws, and just one defeat in official competitions.
As a result, Egypt will contest the third-place playoff match at the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since the 1984 edition of the tournament.
The last time Egypt played a bronze-medal match was 42 years ago, when they lost 3–1 to Algeria in the tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire.
