Egypt will partake in the meeting of the foreign and irrigation ministers of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia to relaunch the negotiations of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) after being suspended since August, according to the Irrigation Ministry's spokesman Mohamed El Sebai on Monday.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is the current head of the African Union (AU), invited Egypt for the meeting today.

Sebai stressed that Egypt is ready to render these negotiations successful to reach a just and balanced agreement, achieving the interests of the three countries.

He expressed his appreciation for South Africa's efforts in sponsoring these talks and paying great attention to this vital file.

Today, Ramaphosa said: “It is a reaffirmation of the confidence that the parties have in an African-led negotiations process," adding that the resumption of talks came following “extensive consultations” with the concerned leaders of the GERD dispute.

Ramaphosa expressed his “utmost confidence that the parties will reach agreement on the remaining issues, including those related to the technical and legal aspects of the negotiations.”
