The director of Egypt's national football team, Mohamed Gharib, has officially announced that the Pharaohs are set to play against Ethiopia in the sixth round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on September 8. A friendly match against Tunisia is also scheduled for September 12.
Portuguese coach, Rui Vitória, aims to finish the qualification phase in a manner that befits the national team. This includes both the official match against Ethiopia and the friendly against Tunisia, before shifting focus to the World Cup qualifiers.
Officials from Egypt's first football team have started planning friendly matches for the upcoming October. Vitória has requested two friendlies during this camp, with the administrative apparatus coordinating with the Football Federation to arrange two games during this period in preparation for the African World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The World Cup qualification draw for Africa placed the national team in the first group, which includes Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Djibouti for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The qualifiers will commence with the first two rounds between November 13 and 21, 2023. The third and fourth rounds will take place between June 3 and 11, 2024. The events will continue with the fifth and sixth rounds between March 17 and 25, 2025, and the seventh and eighth rounds between September 1 and 9, 2025. Lastly, the ninth and tenth rounds will be played on October 6 and 14, 2025.
