Egypt’s national football team is set to face Brazil and a European side in two high-profile friendlies as part of its final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida.

Speaking during a parliamentary youth and sports committee meeting, Abo Rida outlined a comprehensive preparation plan coordinated with the technical staff led by head coach Hossam Hassan. He confirmed that Egypt will play a friendly against a European team ahead of the tournament, in addition to a major test against Brazil scheduled for June 6.

A final coordination meeting with the coaching staff is set for May 23 to put the finishing touches on the pre-tournament training camp and logistics.

Abo Rida highlighted the logistical challenges facing teams in the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. He noted that travel between match venues during the group stage could take up to 50 minutes by air, a stark contrast to the compact geography of the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Despite these challenges, the Egyptian FA expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to deliver strong performances, emphasizing trust in both the players and the technical staff. Abo Rida described the players as resilient under pressure and called for strong fan support throughout the tournament.

Egypt has qualified for the World Cup three times in its history—1934, 1990, and 2018—and is now preparing for what would be its fourth appearance in 2026. The country’s football legacy, however, remains strongly tied to its record success in the Africa Cup of Nations.
