On Tuesday, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker revealed that Egypt-Libya electricity interconnection line capacity is set to be increased from the current 200 megawatts (MW) to 500 MW and even more 2000 or 3000 MW in the future, according to domestic reports.
In an important step to turn Egypt into a global energy hub, Shaker explained that the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has adopted effective studies and proposals to boost the voltage of the two countries electric power line from 220 kV to 500 kV, noting that the Ministry was keen to deliver electricity to Tripoli with the highest quality.
Lately, the Libyan government has requested Egyptian authorities to increase electricity exports to Libya in light of Libya’s electric power crisis as the North African country suffers from daily power cuts and a major power supply deficit.
