Egypt’s Seif Qandil, Director of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa, took part in the 10th Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, representing Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
Held under the patronage of Macky Sall, the forum convened senior officials, representatives of international and regional organizations, and experts from across the continent to address mounting security and development challenges.
This year’s edition, themed “Africa facing the challenges of stability, integration, and sovereignty: what sustainable solutions?”, focused on a range of pressing issues including escalating armed conflicts, climate-related risks, the spread of extremism and terrorism, and obstacles to regional integration. Participants also examined Africa’s efforts to achieve digital and technological sovereignty.
Discussions underscored the need for a comprehensive and integrated approach to peace and security, emphasizing the interlinkages between natural resource management, technological development, and education as key pillars for long-term stability.
On the sidelines of the forum, Qandil held talks with senior Senegalese officials, including the secretary-general of the foreign ministry and the director of the minister’s office. The meetings explored avenues for enhanced cooperation and coordination between the Dakar Forum and the upcoming Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled to take place in Aswan in October.
Egypt has positioned the Aswan Forum as a key platform for advancing African-led solutions to peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction, in line with broader continental priorities.
