Egypt’s Minister of Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, has ordered the suspension of classes in all schools nationwide on Wednesday and Thursday due to expected severe weather conditions.

The decision applies to students, teachers, and all school staff, aiming to ensure safety and maintain equal conditions for students across the country amid forecasts of unstable weather.

The move follows warnings from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, which expects a strong wave of weather instability beginning Tuesday evening and continuing through the following days.

Forecasts indicate heavy and sometimes thundery rainfall across several northern governorates, including Matrouh, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia, Damietta, Port Said, Gharbia, Monufia, and Sharqia.

Authorities also warned of potential flash floods in parts of Sinai, northern Red Sea areas, and along the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, Fayoum, Beni Suef, and Minya, with possible thunderstorms and hail in some areas.

Meanwhile, lighter rainfall is forecast for Upper Egypt, the Western Desert, and southern Red Sea regions.

Strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 km/h are also expected, which may trigger dust and sandstorms, significantly reducing visibility—particularly in desert and southern areas—alongside a drop in temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.
