The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) released its latest report today, detailing key developments in the economic relations between Egypt and Spain.

According to the report, the value of trade between the two nations reached $1.5 billion during the first half of 2025, a slight dip from $1.6 billion recorded during the same period in 2024.

In a related development, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to welcome King Felipe VI of Spain for an official visit today, Wednesday. The visit will include the Egyptian-Spanish Business Forum, which aims to explore new opportunities to further enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Egypt’s exports to Spain amounted to $712 million in the first half of 2025, marking a decrease from $803.1 million in the same period of 2024. Despite this slight decline, Egyptian exports continue to be an important aspect of the countries’ trade relationship. The figures show that Egypt remains a key exporter to Spain, particularly in sectors like agriculture and manufacturing.

On the import side, Egypt’s purchases from Spain increased to $802 million in H1 2025, up from $782.6 million in the previous year. This rise suggests growing demand for high-quality Spanish goods and services in the Egyptian market, with several key sectors benefiting from increased trade.

Among the most prominent Egyptian exports to Spain were fertilizers, which amounted to $105 million. Ready-made garments followed closely with exports worth $102 million, while fruits and vegetables accounted for $73 million.

Additionally, plastics and related products exported to Spain reached $60.4 million, and mineral fuels and oils added another $42.7 million to the total export value. These products represent some of Egypt’s strongest export categories, underscoring the country’s role as a key supplier of agricultural and industrial goods to Spain.

Top Egyptian Imports from Spain

Egypt’s imports from Spain were dominated by copper and its alloys, valued at $133.9 million. This was followed by electrical machines and apparatus, which totaled $105.6 million. Cars and tractors, important for Egypt's transportation sector, accounted for $74.3 million in imports. Pharmaceutical products, essential for Egypt’s growing healthcare sector, reached $61 million, while iron and steel imports stood at $47.4 million. These imports reflect Egypt’s ongoing industrialization and its need for advanced technology and materials.

Spanish Investments in Egypt

Spanish investments in Egypt totaled $61.4 million during the first half of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, a slight decrease from $62.2 million in the same period of the previous year. While this represents a modest drop, the numbers still reflect Spain’s continued interest in Egypt’s growing market. Key sectors attracting Spanish investment include energy, infrastructure, and tourism, as Egypt’s economy continues to expand and diversify.

Egyptian Investments in Spain

Egyptian investments in Spain reached $28.9 million in the first half of 2025, showing a decrease from $38.1 million in H1 2024. While this decline is notable, it is important to consider that Egypt’s presence in the Spanish market is still developing. The investments primarily span sectors like construction, technology, and renewable energy, with the potential for growth in the coming years.

Remittances

Remittances from Egyptians working in Spain grew significantly, reaching $21.6 million in the first half of 2025, up from $18.9 million in the same period the previous year. The increase in remittances underscores the strong economic and social ties between the two countries. Similarly, remittances from Spanish nationals working in Egypt also rose to $4.9 million, up from $3.8 million, further highlighting the growing financial connections between the two nations.

Population

As of September 2025, Egypt’s population stands at 108.1 million, compared to Spain’s population of 47.9 million. This significant demographic difference presents Egypt with substantial potential for continued growth, particularly in trade and investment. Spain, with its highly developed economy and strategic position within the European Union, remains an essential partner for Egypt in expanding its economic footprint.

As President El-Sisi meets with King Felipe VI and the Egyptian-Spanish Business Forum gets underway today, the focus is firmly on further strengthening the trade and economic ties between the two nations. Looking ahead, Egypt and Spain are poised to deepen their collaboration, with potential growth across sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, and technology. The bilateral relationship continues to be a promising avenue for mutual growth and development.
