Egypt Ships 237,000 Tons of Food Exports in Week to April 24: NFSA

Egypt exported 4,149 food consignments totaling about 237,000 tons in the week to April 24, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said on Sunday.

The shipments, carried out by 1,512 exporting companies, covered around 760 products including fruits, vegetables, flour and grain-based goods, according to the authority’s weekly report.

Fruit exports reached 81,000 tons across 39 varieties, led by citrus at 60,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 15,000 tons and other fruits at 6,000 tons.

Vegetable exports totaled 52,000 tons from 46 varieties, with potatoes accounting for 20,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes at 9,000 tons, while other vegetables made up smaller volumes.

Saudi Arabia was the largest importer of Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by the United States, Syria, the Netherlands and Sudan, among a total of 192 destination markets.

Safaga Port handled the highest number of export consignments at 906 shipments, followed by Damietta Port with 810 and Alexandria Port with 687, the authority said.

On the import side, Egypt received 2,063 food consignments totaling 575,000 tons, brought in by 874 companies. Key imports included wheat, soybeans and various vegetable oils.

Russia was the top supplier to Egypt during the period, followed by Bulgaria, Ukraine, Indonesia and the United States, among 84 exporting countries.

Alexandria Port ranked first in incoming consignments with 762 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 456 and Damietta Port with 242.

The authority said it issued 1,294 export health certificates during the week to ensure compliance with safety standards, while 1,101 consignments were released under temporary clearance and 528 through a fast-track system.
