Egypt’s national football team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, secured a vital 1-0 victory over Mauritania in the fourth round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The match, held on Tuesday, saw Ibrahim Adel score the decisive goal, ensuring Egypt’s place in the upcoming tournament.

The win lifts Egypt to 12 points, marking their fourth consecutive victory in the qualifiers and officially booking their ticket to AFCON 2025, which will be held in Morocco.

The game started with both teams pushing for early dominance. Mauritania came close to scoring in the 8th minute, but Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy made a crucial save, injuring himself in the process. Egypt's Ahmed Eid nearly put the Pharaohs ahead in the 12th minute, but his shot narrowly missed.

While Egypt gradually gained control, the first half ended goalless, with neither side creating clear chances.

In the second half, Mauritania again threatened, but El-Shenawy stood firm with another vital save. Hossam Hassan made key substitutions in the 62nd minute, bringing on Trezeguet and Hamdi Fathi to intensify Egypt’s attack. The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when Ibrahim Adel struck from long range, beating the Mauritanian goalkeeper with a stunning goal.

This win follows Egypt’s 2-0 victory over Mauritania in Cairo during the third round of qualifiers, reinforcing Egypt’s dominance in the group and securing their spot in AFCON 2025.
