Egypt Celebrates Diamond Jubilee of Space Invasion

Egypt, Russia and most of the countries across the world celebrated on April 12 the 60th (Diamond Jubilee) of the first journey into outer space implemented by Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961.

The Soviet astronaut rotates around Earth in 108 minutes.

His journey to space changes the history of the mankind forever.

After his journey, he toured 35 countries all over the world, Egypt was among those countries where he spent seven days.

President Gamal Abdel Nasser gifted Gagarin the Order of the Nile and the two golden keys of Cairo and Alexandria.

The Soviet astronaut met also with two poets Abdel Rahman Al Khameesy and Mahmud Tewfik, and asked to translate their poems about him to the Russian language.

In Cairo, the guest of Egypt, the Russian astronaut, Mikhail Kornenko, placed bouquets of flowers in front of the statue of "Yuri Gagarin", the first person to go into space, which the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo presented to the Egyptian Space Agency (ESA).

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Qosi, head of the ESA, and " Sherif Gad, Director of the Media and Public Relations Department, as a deputy for "Alexei Tiffanyan", Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, with the participation of a delegation from the "Ross Atom" Foundation, which is implementing the El Dabaa project, the first nuclear power plant in Egypt.

Kornienko, who carried out nearly 200 successful operational experiments into space and stayed in outer space for a year and a half in two stages.

Gagarin paved the way for humanity to invade outer space.

And in Moscow, the daughter of Yuri Gagarin, "Yelena Gagarina", who was two years old at the moment of her father's launch into outer space, "said that her father was certain that he would contribute to the development of science and humanity, when he decided to go out to outer space.

She revealed that all bid farewell, hoping him to return to his family after the success of his flight.

On the other hand, the Russian astronauts sent from their spacecraft a message of congratulations to Earth on this anniversary.

They stressed Gagarin’s merit in all that mankind has achieved in space science.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed El-Qosi, head of the Egyptian Space Agency, said that he welcomes cooperation with the Russians in the space field, as preparations are underway for preparing for a number of activities within the framework of joint cooperation.

Sherif Gad also conveyed the message of "Alexei Tiffanyan" that the Russian Cultural Center's donation of the statue of Yuri Gagarin to the Egyptian Space Agency (ESA) is the beginning of cooperation, which we hope will extend and expand to witness a qualitative leap in the framework of mutual interests.
