On Tuesday, Egypt detected 855 new coronavirus infections, bringing total cases nationwide to 218, 041, according to a statement by the country's health ministry.
The statement added that 42 deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 12,820.
A total of 556 patients have been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 164,368.
Egypt is currently witnessing a steady increase in daily coronavirus positive cases as a result of the pandemic's third wave.
As of 11 April, more than 800 people have been infected every day. However, the third wave has not so far peaked, according to Presidential Health Advisor Mohamed Awad Tageldin.
The new wave is on the upward curve currently, Tageldin said in a TV comment last week.
Due to the current spike, masses and congregational services at 18 dioceses in 13 Egyptian governorates will be halted from 25 April until 1 May, a period during which Christians in Egypt celebrate the occasions of the Holy Week and Easter.
Egypt, at the other end, is looking to increase its supply of coronavirus vaccines, which stands at around 1.5 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm and the British-Swedish Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, to vaccinate as many citizens as possible. Up to 660,000 citizens have been vaccinated so far, while around 1.5 million citizens have registered online to receive the vaccine, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, the undersecretary of the health ministry's Preventive Medicine Department, told the media on Sunday.
The country began vaccinating priority groups in March, allowing medical teams, the elderly and people with chronic disease to register online via a designated website to be inoculated.
The country is also seeking to increase the number of vaccination centres nationwide from 201 to 368 in two weeks, including 10 mega centres that can serve larger numbers, noted Abdel-Fattah.
