EgyptERA officially announced new electricity tariff increases affecting a range of strategic sectors in Egypt, including irrigation activities, water and wastewater companies, metro operations, and medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage consumers.

The revised pricing structure forms part of the government’s broader effort to address rising production and operating costs while supporting the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the national power grid.

According to the newly approved tariff schedule, electricity prices for irrigation purposes and water and sanitation companies have increased to 255 piasters per kilowatt-hour, up from 194 piasters, representing an increase of approximately 31.4%.

The same increase applies to other medium-voltage subscribers, while electricity distributors connected to the transmission network will pay 250 piasters per kilowatt-hour, compared with the previous 194 piasters, marking a rise of nearly 29%.

Officials said the updated tariffs are part of periodic reviews designed to reflect changes in electricity generation, transmission, and operational costs across the energy sector.

The announcement also included revised pricing for high- and extra-high-voltage consumers, including Cairo Metro and major industrial users.

For extra-high-voltage usage between 132 and 220 kilovolts, electricity prices for industrial users such as Egyptian Chemical Industries (KIMA) increased to 189 piasters per kilowatt-hour from 160 piasters, reflecting an 18.1% rise.

Electricity distributors linked to the national transmission grid will pay 184 piasters instead of 160 piasters, while Cairo Metro and other subscribers under the same voltage category will also face tariffs of 189 piasters per kilowatt-hour.

For high-voltage users operating between 33 and 66 kilovolts, tariffs for Cairo Metro increased to 205 piasters per kilowatt-hour from 174 piasters, representing a 17.8% increase. Other high-voltage subscribers will face similar increases, while transmission-linked distribution companies will pay 200 piasters per kilowatt-hour.

Sources within the electricity sector stated that the tariff adjustments are intended to support grid stability, improve operational efficiency, and ensure continued service quality for strategic infrastructure and public utilities.

The increases come as Egypt continues implementing broader energy-sector reforms aimed at balancing subsidy reductions, rising fuel and operational expenses, and growing electricity demand across industrial, transportation, and public service sectors.
