Egypt and Qatar are set to launch a major bilateral investment partnership in the coming days, focusing on the development of the Samla and Alam El-Roum areas in Egypt’s Matrouh Governorate, as part of their expanding economic cooperation.

The announcement came following a meeting between Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, on the sidelines of the First Summit of the Global Alliance for Combating Hunger and Poverty, held in Doha.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Ambassador Walid El-Feki, Egypt’s Ambassador to Qatar.

During the discussions, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani welcomed Dr. Madbouly and the accompanying Egyptian delegation, commending Egypt’s participation—on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—in both the Global Alliance Summit and the Second World Summit on Social Development.

He congratulated President El-Sisi, the Egyptian government, and the Egyptian people on the official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, praising the spectacular ceremony that marked the event.

The Qatari Prime Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors and activating Qatari investments in Egypt, emphasizing Qatar’s full support for Egypt’s efforts across regional and international arenas. He also commended the ongoing coordination between Cairo and Doha regarding the Palestinian issue, expressing interest in maintaining joint efforts in other key areas to promote stability and prosperity in the region.

For his part, Prime Minister Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi’s warm greetings to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, and expressed Egypt’s appreciation for Qatar’s constructive regional role. He affirmed Egypt’s keenness to expand economic and investment cooperation, noting that both countries share deep historical and brotherly ties built on mutual respect and a shared vision for development.

According to Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany, the two leaders discussed several topics of mutual interest, including the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement.

They also emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the sixth session of the Egyptian-Qatari Joint Higher Committee, held last August in New Alamein, by implementing the signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and expanding bilateral cooperation in line with both countries’ strategic interests.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to activate a package of Qatari investments in Egypt, initially discussed between President El-Sisi and Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in previous talks. The plan will begin with the signing of a major Egyptian-Qatari investment partnership agreement in the coming days to develop the Samla and Alam El-Roum project in Matrouh Governorate.
