Egypt took part in the 10th session of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum, which took place on November 26-27, 2024, in Portugal. The country was represented by Ambassador Nabil Habshi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, alongside Ambassador Wael El Naggar, Egypt's Ambassador to Lisbon.

The forum, entitled "United in Peace: Restoring Trust, Reshaping the Future," was convened by the UN Secretary-General and the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, attracting government officials, leaders from civil society, and representatives from the private sector.

The objective of the gathering was to foster dialogue aimed at tackling global challenges through innovative approaches, while promoting peace, tolerance, sustainable development, interfaith dialogue, and the fight against hatred. Additionally, it provided a venue to evaluate the progress of the Alliance of Civilizations initiative, which was established during the 59th session of the UN General Assembly in 2004.

The forum commenced with addresses from the President of Portugal, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, the King of Spain, and Turkey’s Foreign Minister, who co-hosted the event. In his speech during the ministerial session of the Alliance’s Friends Group, Ambassador Habshi highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation in bridging divides and addressing ongoing conflicts fueled by misconceptions and stereotypes.

He pointed out the significant challenges currently facing the world, particularly in the Middle East, where economic and political instability remains a pressing issue.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding commitment to conflict resolution and regional stabilization, emphasizing the nation’s ongoing initiatives to promote dialogue, tolerance, and the renewal of religious discourse, including conferences organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Endowments and Dar Al-Ifta.

The forum included sessions focused on combating religious intolerance, countering hate, and promoting peace.
