Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry accompanied by his delegation will take part in the Paris Conference on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which takes place on Thursday.
The conference aims to gather international efforts to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the Gaza Strip, which has been facing severe living conditions due to the Israeli blockade and recent escalation of violence.
During the conference, Shoukry will speak on behalf of President Al-Sisi and highlight Egypt's efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and mediate a ceasefire between the Palestinian factions and Israel.
On Wednesday, Shoukry received a phone call from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who praised Egypt's crucial role in ending the crisis and providing aid to the Gaza people. They discussed diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire and protect the lives of Palestinian civilians, as well as the need for states to comply with international law and international humanitarian law.
Shoukry also expressed gratitude for the Secretary-General's and the UN General Assembly's balanced positions. They called for an instant humanitarian truce in Gaza and rejected attempts to force Palestinians to leave their homes.
