On December 17, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during the latter’s visit to Cairo to participate in the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Summit, scheduled for December 19.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both ministers praised the positive momentum in bilateral relations and highlighted the strong fraternal ties between the two nations. Minister Abdel Aty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to enhancing political, economic, and trade cooperation, fostering bilateral trade, and encouraging mutual investments.
He also expressed Egypt’s desire to coordinate with Pakistan during its non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (2025-2026), underlining the importance of collaboration within the UN and other multilateral frameworks. Abdel Aty further highlighted the historical role of Al-Azhar in Pakistan and stressed the need to elevate this cooperation through joint programs to combat religious extremism and train imams.
Regarding the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, the Egyptian Foreign Minister noted Cairo’s interest in enhancing bilateral coordination within the organization as a platform to promote South-South cooperation and bolster economic, investment, and trade relations among member states.
The spokesperson added that the two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments in the Middle East, including the situations in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. They agreed to maintain close consultations moving forward through bilateral, regional, and international platforms.
