The Egyptian National Railways launched its eighth special train to support the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals to their home country. The train, identified as Train No. 1940, departed from Cairo’s Ramses Station at 7:52 PM, bound for Aswan's High Dam Station.

The special train, part of a broader Egyptian initiative, carried over 940 Sudanese citizens and marks the continuation of a collaborative effort between the Egyptian government and Sudanese authorities to facilitate the safe and voluntary repatriation of Sudanese nationals who sought refuge in Egypt due to ongoing instability in their home country.

Since the start of the initiative, 7,608 Sudanese nationals have been transported back to Sudan using the Egyptian National Railways’ services. The initiative has been a response to a rising number of Sudanese seeking voluntary repatriation amidst the volatile political and security situation in Sudan.

The Egyptian government has worked to ensure smooth and efficient logistics for these journeys, providing a safe and dignified process for the returnees. The Egyptian Ministry of Transport, led by Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, has been at the forefront of this effort, with clear instructions to ensure every step of the process reflects Egypt’s longstanding tradition of solidarity with Sudan.

The Egyptian Railway Authority has provided comprehensive support for the passengers, starting from their initial arrival at the station. Specialized teams have been deployed to assist elderly passengers and those with special needs, ensuring that everyone receives the help they need throughout the journey.

Additionally, each train is equipped with a dedicated luggage car for transporting personal belongings, allowing passengers to travel with their essential items. The rail authorities have also implemented rigorous safety measures and organizational procedures to ensure the comfort and security of all travelers.

The Sudanese passengers on board expressed their deep gratitude toward the Egyptian government and people for their generous support. Many highlighted the well-organized operations and streamlined procedures, which have made their return to Sudan as smooth as possible.

"We are incredibly grateful for the hospitality Egypt has shown us," one Sudanese passenger said. "From our arrival in Egypt to this moment, the process has been very easy and welcoming. We can now return home in comfort, thanks to the efforts of the Egyptian authorities."

As the number of Sudanese nationals seeking repatriation continues to grow, the Egyptian National Railways has announced plans to operate additional services in the coming weeks. The authorities are committed to offering as many opportunities as possible for Sudanese citizens to return home safely and efficiently.

The next return journey is scheduled for tomorrow evening, when Train No. 1945 (air-conditioned third class) will depart from Aswan at 8:30 PM, arriving back in Cairo at 9:25 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025.
