In continued support of Sudanese nationals returning home, Egypt’s National Railway Authority announced the operation of the 20th voluntary repatriation train from Egypt to Sudan as part of an ongoing humanitarian initiative.

The train departed on Sunday, September 28, under the directive of Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport. The initiative reflects Egypt’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt who wish to return voluntarily to their homeland.

According to a statement from the National Railway Authority of Egypt, the total number of Sudanese passengers transported through the initiative has now reached 19,069 individuals, underscoring the scale of Egypt’s efforts to assist its southern neighbor amid ongoing challenges.

The train is scheduled to arrive at High Dam Station (Al-Sadd Al-Aali) at 11:40 PM local time. The same train will then return to regular passenger service, departing from Aswan Station at 11:30 AM the following day, Monday, September 29.

This voluntary return program forms part of Egypt's broader humanitarian response to the regional crisis, particularly following the conflict and displacement affecting millions in Sudan. Egypt has served as a key transit and host country for Sudanese refugees and returnees since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023.

The repatriation trains are coordinated efforts between Egyptian transportation authorities, relevant ministries, and humanitarian partners to ensure safe, dignified, and organized returns for those opting to go back to Sudan.
