Egypt Offers Condolences to Iraqi Government over Ibn-Khatib Hospital Fire

Egypt offered condolences to the Iraqi government and people over the tragic Ibn al-Khatib hospital fire on Sunday.

Issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the statement highlighted: “The Egyptian government expresses its sincere condolences to the Iraqi government and brotherly people over the tragic fire that took place at related COVID-19 cases hospital in Baghdad."

It added that Egypt extends its condolences to the families of the innocent victims and wishes speed recovery for the injured.

Finally, the statement asserted Egypt's support to the Iraqi people in such a sorrowful event.

At least 82 killed and dozens injured in a massive fire that erupted at a hospital for COVID-19 cases in Baghdad, reports indicated on Sunday.

The fire took place late Saturday after several oxygen tanks exploded at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital which concerned with related-COVID-19 cases, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health statement.

Civil defense members managed to save at least 200 members from the fire including patients. Regarding the final number of casualties, the ministry asserted that the exact figures will be available soon.
