Egypt Moves to Expand Tech Investments as Communications Min. Meets SAP Executives

Egypt is stepping up efforts to strengthen its position as a regional technology hub, as Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi held high-level talks with executives from SAP to explore expanding the company’s investments and operations in the country.

The meeting, held on Sunday, focused on increasing SAP’s footprint in Egypt, particularly in outsourcing services and advanced digital solutions, amid a broader government push to boost exports of IT-enabled services.

Discussions highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration in cloud computing, with an emphasis on enhancing Egypt’s “digital sovereignty”, ensuring greater control over national data and applications hosted on cloud platforms.

Both sides also explored expanding the availability of advanced technological capabilities in the Egyptian market, including solutions powered by artificial intelligence, which SAP is increasingly integrating into its global product suite.

The talks centered on developing human capital. The ministry and SAP discussed launching specialized training programs aimed at equipping Egyptian youth with high-demand digital skills aligned with global labor market needs.

The initiative is expected to enhance employability and support Egypt’s ambitions to become a major center for cross-border IT services and outsourcing.

The meeting also touched on the possibility of conducting a comprehensive study to assess labor market requirements in technology fields related to solutions SAP, helping align training and education programs with industry demand.

Minister Raafat Hindi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a competitive business environment that encourages international companies to expand in Egypt. He emphasized the importance of partnerships with global firms in building advanced digital capabilities and supporting the growth of the local tech ecosystem.

On her part, Augusta Spinelli, SAP’s Regional President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, praised the long-standing partnership with Egypt, describing the country as a “promising and strategic market.”

She reaffirmed SAP’s commitment to supporting digital transformation efforts, investing in local talent, and launching innovation-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic growth.
