Egypt is conducting continuous monitoring of rainfall rates at the headwaters of the Nile, and determination of the quantities of water reaching the High Dam lake, with the aim of ensuring the provision of its water needs.

Egypt's measures came amid news that Ethiopia has completed the third phase of filling the reservoir of the Renaissance Dam, which is located on the main tributary of the Nile.

Since the launch of the project in 2011, the Renaissance Dam has sparked a conflict with Sudan and Egypt, which depend on the Nile for their water resources.

Cairo and Khartoum are calculating the expected effects of the dam, especially the impact on their water shares, as well as other social and economic damages.

The Permanent Committee for Regulating the Nile River Revenue in Egypt, headed by the Minister of Water Resources Mohamed Abdel-Aty, held a meeting yesterday to “follow up on the position of the Nile River’s revenue, and to provide the water needs of all beneficiaries during the period of maximum current needs.
