Egypt claimed their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory, Spain got their campaign back on track in style, and Cabo Verde continued their dream tournament with a thrilling draw against Uruguay on Matchday 11 of the 2026 World Cup.

The day delivered drama across Groups G and H, with Mohamed Salah inspiring Egypt to a landmark win over New Zealand, while Cabo Verde once again stunned one of the tournament’s heavyweights by battling back to draw 2-2 with Uruguay.

Spain, meanwhile, responded strongly to their opening setback by cruising past Saudi Arabia, while Belgium and Iran shared the spoils in a tense goalless draw.

Spain bounced back emphatically from their frustrating opening match by sweeping aside Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Group H.

Teen sensation Lamine Yamal opened the scoring to register Spain’s first goal of the tournament and become one of the youngest scorers in World Cup history.

Mikel Oyarzabal then struck twice as Luis de la Fuente’s side took full control before an own goal from Hassan Al Tambakti completed the rout.

The result moved Spain to the top of Group H and left Saudi Arabia needing a positive result in their final group match to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

Belgium and Iran were forced to settle for a point each after a tightly contested stalemate in Los Angeles.

Belgium created opportunities but lacked sharpness in front of goal, while Iran came close to snatching victory when Mehdi Taremi found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside.

The draw leaves both teams under pressure heading into the final round of Group G fixtures, with qualification still hanging in the balance.

Cabo Verde continued to be one of the stories of the tournament after producing another outstanding display to hold Uruguay to a 2-2 draw in Group H.

After frustrating Spain in their opening match, the tournament debutants showed their attacking quality this time around.

Kevin Pina gave Cabo Verde the lead with a superb free-kick before Uruguay fought back, only for the Blue Sharks to respond again and secure a famous point through Hélio Varela.

The result leaves Group H wide open heading into the final round of matches, with Spain leading the section on four points, while Uruguay and Cabo Verde sit level on two points.

Egypt produced one of the standout moments of the day by defeating New Zealand 3-1 in Vancouver to record the nation’s first-ever World Cup win.

New Zealand made the brighter start and took the lead, but Egypt turned the game around in the second half.

Mostafa Ziko brought the Pharaohs level before Mohamed Salah put them in front with a decisive finish. Trézéguet then sealed the victory late on to spark celebrations for the African side.

The win was historic for Egypt, ending a wait of more than nine decades for a World Cup victory, and it lifted them to the top of Group G ahead of the final matchday.
