Egypt has reaffirmed that Libya’s stability is a cornerstone of Egyptian national security, stressing Cairo’s firm support for preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and national institutions as part of broader efforts to restore lasting stability in the country.

Speaking during a briefing with accredited diplomatic editors, Tamim Khallaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, said Egypt fully supports efforts aimed at safeguarding Libya’s territorial integrity and enabling the Libyan people to achieve their political, security, and economic aspirations.

Khallaf underlined that Egypt considers a comprehensive political settlement, owned and led by Libyans themselves and facilitated by the United Nations, as the only viable path toward ending the prolonged crisis. He stressed that such a settlement must protect Libya’s sovereignty, preserve its unity, and create an environment conducive to holding simultaneous, transparent, and inclusive elections.

The Egyptian official also emphasized that the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries remains a fundamental requirement for consolidating security and stability across all Libyan territory. Without this step, he said, efforts to rebuild state institutions and restore public trust would remain fragile.

Highlighting Libya’s special importance to Egypt, Khallaf noted that the two countries are bound by geographical proximity, deep historical ties, and strong social links between their peoples. He added that instability in Libya directly affects Egypt’s national security and has wider repercussions for the security and stability of the entire region.
